Lakatamia
LakatamiaSet within the quiet residential fabric of Lakatamia, this single floor residence is conceived as a calm and responsive home shaped by climate, context, and everyday living. Designed with ageing in mind, the project adopts a single level organization to support comfort, accessibility, and long-term independence.
All primary functions such as living, kitchen, and bedroom, are arranged on one floor, eliminating stairs and allowing daily routines to unfold with clarity and minimal effort. The plan prioritizes intuitive circulation, step-free thresholds, and carefully considered spatial proportions to accommodate evolving needs aging user profile. At the heart of the house, a central terrace and garden draw surrounding public greenery inward, forming a protected outdoor living space that supports both social life and environmental comfort. From morning coffee to evening gatherings around the fire pit, the terrace accommodates everyday rituals alongside open-air dining and barbecue moments. At the same time, this space promotes cross-ventilation, introduces fresh air, supports passive cooling, and gently slows prevailing winds. Carefully positioned facade openings invite cooling western breezes while maintaining privacy toward the street, and a pitched roof shelters the terrace, enhances enclosure, and allows warm air to rise naturally. Together, these elements shape an inward-focused yet open home grounded in its Mediterranean context and defined by balance, restraint, and long-term comfort.
