Auralith

Auralith was designed for a private client seeking a resilient, climate-responsive home with minimal environmental impact. Shaped by passive strategies and material intelligence, it reduces embodied carbon and construction waste by prioritizing locally sourced, on-site materials—offering a scalable model for low-impact building in remote, ecologically sensitive contexts.

The house is organized into five zones around a central circular living core, anchored by a lush interior courtyard that brings daylight deep into the plan while supporting cooling and natural ventilation. A continuous corridor connects a sequence of courtyard oases and terraces: a shaded mountain courtyard to the north, a private screened pool terrace to the south, and smaller garden courts that create moments of calm from entry to the sleeping areas, strengthening the indoor–outdoor relationship throughout the day.

Auralith merges local construction knowledge with digital fabrication through an approach that is both adaptable and repeatable. Automated screens and responsive elements adjust to sun and wind, enhancing comfort while lowering energy demand. Integrated systems—greywater reuse, green roof irrigation support, efficient heat pumps, photovoltaics above the courtyards, and battery backup—support greater self-sufficiency and reduced reliance on the grid.

Developed with a leading locally sourced 3D-printing partner, the construction method uses robotic production and a minimally invasive site setup. Excavated local minerals are assessed, processed, and combined into a high-performance printable mix, enabling faster delivery with reduced labour, transport, and waste—demonstrating a replicable model for high-performance, place-based architecture in climatically challenging environments.
