Bellapais House Renovation

This special family home brings together the warmth of a traditional village house with a clean, modern architectural language. The layout includes three bedrooms and a separate studio, located in the restored historic structure, designed as a flexible space for guests, work, or creativity. This original part of the house retains a sense of coziness and intimacy, grounded in its traditional character. In contrast, the modern extension introduces an open-plan living room and kitchen, where captivating views unfold as soon as you enter the house, welcoming you in and celebrating the beauty of the location.

The project centers on the careful restoration of a historic village house, expanded with a new volume that opens to the landscape, framing natural light, capturing cooling breezes, and offering long views of the Mediterranean mountains, the village monastery, and the distant coastline.

A dynamic interplay between old and new defines the design. This dialogue is embodied in the sculptural staircase that links the historic structure to the contemporary addition, mirrored in both the interior and exterior. Its dual presence creates a powerful contrast between inside and out, revealing shifting expressions throughout the day and night, and marking a poetic threshold between tradition and modernity.

Guided by a deep respect for its context, the home is constructed with locally sourced materials, passive shading and ventilation strategies, resulting in a space that is energy-efficient and finely attuned to the local of the climate. The carefully positioned pool completes the composition, offering a tranquil outdoor retreat for the family.
